How is YOUR Perception so friggin' different than MINE?

I interrupt this regularly scheduled mediumship program to discuss today something that's way more relevant to my life today.  After all, this is my blog.  Today, I had a rather large argument all about perception.  For some odd reason, I just had to respond to that email.  Definitely not my best choice of the week.

What the hell is perception??  I define perception as your specific version of reality - informed from your understanding and the complex interpretation of your historical background.   Merriam-Webster says perception is the knowledge gained from the process of coming to know or understand something.  Wikipedia says perception is the organization, identification, and interpretation of sensory information in order to represent and understand the environment.

I believe there are only three truths of perception.

1) Your version of reality.  (That which is…) - Everything in your life has led you up to this moment.  Literally.  Think about it, if your perception is an amalgamation of all of your wins, losses, scars, wounds, accomplishments, disappointments, loves, concerns, learning, then it logically follows that all of those experiences and events have informed who you are today and your perception of the situation at hand.

2) Someone else's version of reality.  (That which might be…) - Everything in their life has led them to this moment as well.  Same as above.

3) The TRUTH of the situation.  (That, which is absolute!) – My mother would say, the God’s honest truth.  This is what actually happened or what actually is occurring.  Usually, this is somewhere in between the realities discussed above.

What's the learning here?

- I would like to say that they were just wrong.  I would like to say that their perception was completely off.  Alas, I cannot.  There may just be some valid points that I would do well to ruminate over.  It took me 10 hours to get to that place, but it may just be something to consider.  Maybe.

- Sometimes it's better not to hit "Send"!  Write the email, let it all out, then send to yourself.  Calm down.  Write back the shortest and simplest email instead.  Problem avoided.

- After I wanted to take a “Louisville slugger to both headlights” (Thanks, Carrie Underwood), I went to the gym, released some energy, and started to feel better.  A few good laughs thanks to my friends on FB and I was right as rain.  Well, a little bothered, still, but loads better than where I was.

Now, I'm going to use the catapult technique (for those loyal fans - hopefully you'll remember).  Essentially, I think about the person causing conflict or heavy energy, then imagine them being sling-shotted from my body.  It is amazingly effective and cathartic.  Depending on the weight of their energy, it might take several attempts.  Good luck!

1)  I am sooo enthused to work toward being a medium, author, vlogger, and motivational speaker full time, so Corporate America can be a distant memory.  I'm starting to doubt it's efficacy and relevance in my future career and life.  :/

2)  This week, I have had the distinct pleasure to give two incredible readings.  I am so thankful and grateful for each day when I am able to be so specific it surprises even me.  (More to come here!)

3)  The winner of the free reading from last week was Tricia Bailey, someone with whom I went to high school back in the day.  Feels like so long ago.  Ugh.  Don't we just love getting older.

So, what is mediumship?? - The Myths vs. Facts! (Part Two)

It’s always interesting…the moment someone finds out or remembers that I am a psychic medium.  Their expression always shifts and then, you just never know what’s going to come out of their mouth next.  Never a dull moment.  I therefore thought it would be entertaining to dispel some of the myths and share some little known truths.  Ready?

1 – How come you don’t know your own future? – I believe this is a similar question to why don’t you win the lottery?  Doh!  In my limited time doing this, I believe the benefits of these gifts are for others and not meant for personal gain.
Also, what fun would it be, if I knew what was going to happen.  I definitely have intuitive feelings about certain situations in my own life, but not as much as you might think, or, more accurately, not as much as I might want.

2 - Will I levitate? – No.  I won’t levitate, but that would be cool.  I do, however, sweat a bunch when I do readings.  I have been told it’s due to the frequency (energy-wise) of which I am rising my inner temperature in order to connect with beings outside of our physical realm.

(Too esoteric?  I’ll try and rein it back a little.)

3 - What’s up with your eyes? – Okay…to be honest, it’s a bit challenging for me to focus when I am essentially in the middle of conversations with two or three spirits simultaneously, while interpreting, and finally, having an intelligible give and take conversation with my client.   My unseen friends have the habit of hijacking my thoughts and flooding my mind with images, visions, words, etc…  It’s therefore challenging to keep it all straight (sort of speak).  Your eyes would be distracted too!

4 - Does it just happen overnight? No.  I wish!!  Just like in all the Hollywood movies, one must develop these abilities.  So, the coolest thing for me is that you never stop growing and learning.  For example, all of a sudden, last year, I started to be able to speak with unborn children aka the babies inside of their mommies’ tummies.  That completely caught me off guard.

5 - Are readings for the clients only? – Not at all.  I was surprised to uncover that sometimes the reading provides poignant insights and unexpected opportunities for the deceased loved one/spirit just as much as for the client sitting in front of me.  Sometimes even more.

At the end of the day, this is not exactly a “Carol Ann, walk to the light” sort of business.  I am in a constant state of discovery, surprise, humility, and learning.  It is the most fascinating and rewarding journey of my life.

1.  This week, my body told me that it has had enough and needs rest, so... I got sick.  Ugh.  Yay!  Don’t quite know the right emotion to feel.
2.  The Voice of Siri - @SiriouslySusan -- added me on the Twitter-verse.  So, amazing!

3.   FREE READING!  Follow me on Twitter @IamSethEliot, and I will randomly choose one of you for a free reading, which you can keep or gift to someone else!  All you have to do is follow me on @IamSethEliot on Twitter.

So, what is mediumship?? - The Basics (Part One)

Over the past two years of doing the most purposeful work I could ever imagine, I am routinely asked the same questions – time and time again.  It is my absolute most favorite topic to discuss - well, mediumship AND death.  Over the next few weeks, I have decided to share the basics, the myths vs. facts, and the most frequently asked questions on my developing journey.  Here’s a glimpse into my new life.

So, what is mediumship?

Everyone has their own version of how they tell people.  Theresa Caputo (aka The Long Island Medium) says repeatedly, “I talk to the dead!”  The little boy from "The Sixth Sense" says, “I see dead people!”  For me, Mediumship is three words:  Connection.  Interpretation.  Messages.

As SethEliot (my official medium name) – and yes, Eliot, is my actual middle name, I believe that mediumship is the ability to CONNECT with our deceased loved ones, be them former humans or former pets via all of the senses.  For example, I can see (inside my mind), hear, feel, touch, and sometimes even smell and taste specifics about their lives.  (I’ll talk more about how these senses work in a future post.)

It’s more than that, though.  It’s the complex and anything-goes INTERPRETATION of signs, symbols, words, letters, dates, numbers, feelings, images, and clips into specific, clear (clear, being the operative term), and meaningful messages to the loved ones in front of me.

These MESSAGES are hands-down the most prolific, the most cathartic, and where the life-altering magic happens.  There’s nothing in the world better than hearing your deceased loved one ask for forgiveness or take responsibility for the years of silence between you.  It’s where the harrowing and crippling guilt and shame end and the healing and release begin.

Stay tuned…way more to come!!!

Final Thoughts:

1)  Started working with a branding consultant recently, Fuzzy Image Media.  We soon will be counting down to a brand new reveal of a new look, including a new website.
2)  Twitter?  Insta?  FB?  Pinterest?  - I will be posting much much more in the future.
3)  My prices are going up in June, so, if you want to schedule a reading at the cheap-y price, please contact me at 323-204-2974.  Essentially, I have two rates:  a) for people I don’t know and b) the friends and family discount.
